November's Newsletter

November’s Newsletter.

Hello Everyone, here we are just over a month from Christmas and things are beginning to look festive in the streets and some houses!

During the last month we attended the X-pert program annual review and were available to provide information and to talk to people about the group and what support we provide each other.

We also took our information table to the Admiral Insurance Building to provide a presence for a few hours, and although it was very quiet at the Admiral building we left some leaflets and information about the group.

A big thank you to Steve for coming along and supporting me at these events and in talking to people about diabetes and the group.

Amber, who was with us last month to talk about the booklet produced in association with Diabetes UK, we held a focus group following last months meeting which Amber found really useful and has lots of research data from the things discussed. She will keep us informed of her findings regarding the booklet.

November’s meeting sees us welcome Martin Davies from Martin Davies Chemists, he has kindly agreed to come back and talk some more about medications and how they help us keep control of our diabetes.

We also have a guest from the Council’s Community Connections Team, Rebecca Wilford is here to have a chat with members and take a few pictures so as well as being added to the Councils support group directory, they can feature us as a “Group of the Month”.

Valery, Ann and Sarah attended a Connect 2015 networking Event run by Diabetes UK Cymru in Cardiff last week, it gave us information on group running and also tips on advertising the group, how to talk to journalists to get our stories out and promote the group.

For those of you who might have listened, Sarah was invited to talk about her experiences and the group on the Jason Mohammed Show on BBC Radio Wales yesterday, Dai Williams – Director of Diabetes UK Cymru and Mel Stephenson, international athlete with Type 1 Diabetes were guest panellists who took calls, and discussed how everything is possible with diabetes.

Thursday 26th November is a BME Health Event held at the Pill Millenium Centre between 12pm and 3pm, Sarah and Jennifer Armand will be displaying an information table and talking to people about the group and how we can support everyone from all walks of life.

Next month our meeting will be on the 17th December and we have Tone Gunderson, a dietician, coming to talk about surviving the festivities.

We are hoping to start to finalise the program of speakers for 2016 in the near future, any requested for speakers are gratefully received.

See you next month.
