November 2017’s Newsletter

Hi Everyone and welcome to Novembers newsletter, I am conscious we’ve not had one for a while so I’ll try to fill you in on everything that’s been going on.

28th October saw the annual 50+ Information Day at the Newport Leisure Centre, over 100 stalls with lots of information and freebies. We had a great day and a huge thanks to Valery, Sue and Helen for coming along during the day and keeping me company. A great day again and lots of information given out about diabetes and lots of people who took an interest in our group, fingers crossed we will see some new people as a result.

Back on the 1st October I took part in the London Bridges Challenge for Diabetes UK, 10 miles and 13 iconic bridges over the Thames, I started at the Bandstand in the centre of Battersea Park and zig zagged my way over the Thames to the finish line just over Tower Bridge. This was my second year with my first year taking 6 hours, this year I was determined to beat my time and with 3 months of training before hand I managed to complete this years challenge in 3 hours and 53 minutes, I was really determined not to cry at the finish line this year, but I failed and blubbed like a baby at the end! Out of relief and accomplishment. If you had asked me 3 years ago when I was diagnosed with diabetes I would never have thought I’d be able to walk such a distance but am so very proud of myself for doing so.

I want to thank everyone who sponsored me, together we raised £345 for Diabetes UK.

14th November is World Diabetes Day, celebrated on the 14th November every year and was created by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and the World Health Organisation in response to the growing concerns about the escalating health threat posed by diabetes. If you post during the day remember to use the hashtag #WorldDiabetesDay
