Newsletter February 2017

Hello Everyone and welcome to the first newsletter of 2017.

Well 2016 was a whirlwind and we had a really busy year with some excellent guest speakers, which makes my job harder with trying to “top that” for 2017!!

2017 has started just as busy as last year. Thank you for those who came to the “Christmas” meal last month, a lovely meal at Villa Dino’s in Maindee. And it gave us all a chance to relax and enjoy a night of good food and more importantly good company.

So what does 2017 have install for us.  The lovely Amie and Emily from Diabetes UK Cymru are joining us for February’s meeting to talk about volunteering, fundraising and committee matters. So come along with your ideas.

At March’s meeting, we will welcome Jayne Bryant AM for Newport West and also Chair of the Cross Party Assembly Group for Diabetes. So, any specific questions you would like to ask Jayne or any issues you would like to know more about relating to diabetes care in Newport and Wales let me know. Jayne is also keen to talk to members of the group to get a better understanding of what it’s like to live well with diabetes in the city. Sara Moran from Diabetes Uk Cymru will also be along to give some information about care in Newport. I am planning on asking the South Wales Argus to promote the group meeting before the next meeting and Jayne’s secretary has also agreed to do some promoting through the National Assembly too. March’s meeting is the 16th March

The Diabetes UK Cymru Volunteer Conference is being held on Saturday 4th March, 10am – 4pm at the Central South Consortium, The Conference Centre, Ty Dysgu, Cefn Coed, Parc Nantgarw, Cardiff CF15 7QQ. If you would like to attend you must register. Sarah will send the link by email to anyone who wants to register to attend.  Last year we were lucky enough to be awarded the Inspire Award for Community and Local Groups. The Inspire Awards will be held at the Conference.

A huge thank you to Penny for manning an information table at the end of January at the YMCA in Newport, it was very much appreciated.

That’s it for this edition of the newsletter. I look forward to seeing you at the Group Meeting.

Sarah :)
