Please come along and join in the discussion.

Our very own Lead DSN for the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board – Sian Bodman, has been shortlisted in the prestigious Royal College of Nursing, Patients Choice, Nurse of the Year Award. Sian has been instrumental in making the X-pert program accessible for so many patients in Gwent, she heads up the team of Diabetic Specialist Nurses in Gwent, representing staff and patients at Patient Reference Groups such as the one in Torfaen. And she man’s clinics throughout the health board.

The Patients Choice award is voted for by the patients, and voting starts on the 20th March and will close on the 29th April. We are going to try and get Sian to the finish line as Nurse of The Year and will be sending the voting details around as soon as they are released, it is likely to be one vote per person by email but, yet, we are unaware of the exact process. Watch your inbox for details on how to vote.

Next month sees Claire Greenhouse from the Red Cross coming to talk to the group about first aid for lifelong conditions. What this is is that people with conditions such as diabetes, are susceptible to other heath conditions such as heart attack, stroke, heart disease etc and as such Claire will be talking and teaching us first aid to cope with signs of stroke and heart attack etc.

Sarah has a list of current research for diabetes being conducted and if you are interested please take a look.
