Minutes from July 2017 AGM
Chairs Report – Valery thanked everyone coming to the AGM and for their support over the last 12 months, she also thanked Sarah for her work over the year.
Secretary Report – Sarah outlined all the good things we have done as a group this year including liaising with doctor’s surgeries about information tables and raising awareness of the group. I have attached the written report for your information.
Treasurer’s Report – In the absence of a treasurer Sarah provided a summary confirming that at New Year when the annual report was issued it was noted there was in the region of £250 in the account with the only expenditure of the group being £48 a quarter for the hire of the hall. We have the oncome from group subs at present with the look to increase the fundraising activities in the coming year.
We invited Rhian the new Volunteer Manager from Diabetes UK Cymru to dissolve the 2016 committee and aid in an impartial capacity to install a new committee.
The members of the group elected the following committee officers
Chair, Steve Fletcher - proposed by Valery and Seconded by Sue.
Treasurer and Fundraising officer – Valery Ede – proposed by Sue and seconded by Maureen.
Secretary – Sarah Gibbs – proposed by Valery and seconded by everyone else!!!
Matters in Hand and AOB were incorporated together:
Idea for an awareness day in collaboration with the DSN’s, Doctors, hospital in possibly Richmond House or it’s equivalent when it is established.
We are attending the 50+ Information Day at the end of October in the Leisure Centre – our 3rd Year.
It was also raised to approach the Kingsway Shopping Centre in Newport to hold an information table on a Saturday where footfall is high. = Sarah will enquire regarding this.
Penny has asked if she can submit a piece for the Gwent Federation of WI newsletter regarding the group, we will get in contact with Sally – Ffion’s Maternity Cover and the new media assistant at the Diabetes UK Cymru to run press releases through.
As a group, we welcomed Jayne Bryant to the group earlier this year, she extended an invitation to meet her for a tour of the Sennedd and to be able to sit in on First Ministers Questions which as a group we plan to take her up on in September.
Rhian informed us that Scott Crawley, Professor in Podiatry and Diabetic Foot problems is launching a new campaign early next year and Sara Moran from Diabetes UK Cymru has asked if we can help launch it at the group in the first few months of next year. We have, of course, agreed and we look forward to that in the new year.
We would like to approach some of the local supermarkets with the look to holding an information table instore with the idea of a nearly new sale and/or book stall.
It was raised that it is difficult to direct people to the group so the idea of a large laminated map showing the location of the hall and possibly bus routes was discussed and Sarah will consider that for the group.
When asked who we would like to speak at next years’ group meetings the following were suggested,
Foot Specialist (See details above)
Insulin Talk after it was established that there are 3 members of the group all type 2’s all injecting different forms of insulin – we’d like to know more about how and why and what factors decide what type of insulin is prescribed.
Sarah will also circulate details of the Torfaen Patients Reference Panel, ideally, we would like one in Newport but for the time being if you would like to attend Sarah will forward the next meetings details on to you – the next meeting is in September.
Sarah thanked everyone for attending the AGM and for their input and brought the meeting to a close.
Thank you to Rhian for coming along, officiating and meeting us all here at the Newport Group – You are always welcome.
